TRAINING RESEARCH AND MONITORING (TRM) SCHEME TO STRENGTHEN PDS
The Scheme was initiated during the Sixth Five Year Plan
(a) To provide financial assistance to the State Governments/UT Administrations for :
- Conducting training programmes for functionaries of various levels in the State Food and Civil Supplies Departments and State agencies like State Civil Supplies Corporations, Consumer Co-operatives etc. to improve the management of supplies of essential commodities under PDS;
- Organising lectures, seminars and workshops on policy issues with regard to PDS and related fields.
(b) Conducting research studies on various aspects of the Public Distribution System. With effect from 1998-99, financial assistance under the scheme is also provided to the State Governments/UT Administrations for purchase of Computer to establish an effective link between the District Food and Civil Supplies Office and the Directorate of the Civil Supplies of the State/UT with the NIC network.

RECENT STUDIES CONDUCTED UNDER TRM
- Socio Economic Study on functioning of Public Distribution System in five States i.e. Rajasthan, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Uttaranchal and Jharkhand by Research and Development Initiative, New Delhi.
- A Diagnostic Study on the performance of Public Distribution System in Himachal Pradesh by Himachal University, Shimla.
- Survey-cum-National Seminar on working of Targetted Public Distribution System in North Eastern States by North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong.
- Evaluation Study of Targetted Public Distribution System and Antyodaya Anna Yojana by ORG –MRG, New Delhi.
