प्रो0 के0वी0 थॉमस
ने दिनांक 19 जनवरी, 2011 को केन्द्रीय उपभोक्ता
मामले,
खाद्य और सार्वजनिक वितरण मंत्री का
स्वतंत्र प्रभार ग्रहण किया।
इससे पूर्व आप दिनांक 28 मई, 2009 से 18 जनवरी, 2011
तक कृषि मंत्रालय तथा उपभोक्ता मामले,
खाद्य और सार्वजनिक वितरण मंत्रालय
में केन्द्रीय राज्य मंत्री रहे।
पैंसठ वर्षीय प्रो0 थॉमस पिछले 35 वर्षों से राजनीति
में सक्रिया हैं। आप अर्नाकुलम निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से
चार बार (1984, 1989, 1991 और 2009) लोक सभा के लिए और
दो बार (2001-2006 और 2006-2009) केरल विधान सभा के
लिए निर्वाचित हुए। आपने 3 वर्ष (2001-2004) तक केरल
सरकार में मत्स्य पालन, पर्यटन और आबकारी मंत्री के
रूप में कार्य किया है। आप केरल राज्य में मत्स्य
पालन और पर्यटन को बढ़ावा देने के लिए की गई पहल के
लिए जाने जाते हैं।
शिक्षाविद् के रूप में प्रो0 थॉमस ने रसायन विज्ञान का
अध्यापन किया और आप 20 वर्ष तक सेक्रेड हार्ट कॉलेज,
तेवारा, कोच्चि, केरल में रसायन विज्ञान विभाग के
विभागाध्यक्ष रहे। आप अनेक राजनीतिक और सांस्कृतिक
संगठनों से जुड़े हुए हैं। आपने विश्व के लगभग 25
देशों का दौरा किया है और मलयालम में आपकी 9 पुस्तकें
प्रकाशित हो चुकी हैं।

Prof. K.V. Thomas took over as Independent Charge of Union
Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public
Distribution, on 19th January, 2011.
Earlier he was Union Minister of State in the
Ministries ofAgriculture and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government
of India from 28th May, 2009
to 18th January, 2011.
Sixty-five year old Prof. Thomas has spent the
last 35 years of his life in active
politics. He was
elected to Lok
Sabha from Ernakulam
Constituency for four terms (1984, 1989, 1991 and
2009) and two terms for Kerala
Assembly (2001-2006 and 2006-2009) . He has
served as Minister of Fisheries, Tourism and Excise
in Kerala Government for
over 3 years
(2001-2004). He is known for his initiatives taken
by him for promotion of
fisheries and
tourism in the State of Kerala.
As an academician, Prof. Thomas taught
Chemistry and was Head of
Chemistry
Department in the
Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Kochi, Kerala for 20 years. He is
associated with a large number of political and
cultural organisations. He has visited about 25
countries around the world and has published 9 books
in Malayalam.
